v награждать: to award smb smth — награждать кого-либо чем-либо (1). Глагол to award относится к таким же глаголам, как give, с которыми обязательно употребление двух дополнений: прямого и косвенного:The jury awarded him first prize — Жюри наградило его первой премией.
Глагол to award обычно употребляется в пассивной форме, таким образом, русскому его наградили соответствует he was awarded a medal (order, prize, etc.) или he received an award (for smth). (2). Русскому наградить кого-либо соответствуют глаголы to award smb smth (for smth) и to reward smb for smth. Глагол to award подчеркивает публичное, официальное признание заслуг, а глагол to reward связан с оплатой вознаграждения, выдачей чего-либо ценного, полезного в благодарность за что-либо. Глагол to reward точнее соответствует русскому вознаграждать кого-либо:to award smb a medal (prize, certificate) — наградить кого-либо медалью (присудить приз, диплом).
